Volunteering in Uganda with HVO and AOFAS

AOFAS members, working in collaboration with HVO, have volunteered in Uganda with a goal of improving foot and ankle care through education and training of the orthopaedic residents at Mulago Hospital in the capital city of Kampala. Mulago Hospital is a 2,000 bed public facility with a developing orthopaedic residency program. Orthopaedics was introduced to Uganda in 1991, and HVO has had a presence in Kampala for a number of years. In 2008 it was reported that the country had 20 orthopaedic surgeons for its population of 30 million people. English is the official language of Uganda.
